December 5, 2012: Turkish Airline has opened up a second destination from its hub in Instanbul, Ataturk International Airport to Kenya. Mombasa International Airport (MIA) becomes the second destination that Turkish Airline will be flying to having already established operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Nairobi.
The inaugural flight a Boeing 737-900 which landed at Moi International Airport on the 5th of December 2012 at 12.00pm, and was recieved by the Kenya Airports Authority Chairman Proffessor Mutuma Mugambi and Mr Yatich Kangugo Airport Manager Moi International Airport. The inaugural flight had 90 Passengers on board, which included the airline Chief Executive Officer and President of Turkish Airline Mr Kotil Kemel and his executive team.
While welcoming Turkish Airline to Moi International Airport, Prof. Mugambi said “The decision of Turkish Airlines to operate from Moi International Airport is an eloquent testimony of the confidence that your airline has in the Kenyan economy. “
“Indeed I am pleased to note that you have now expanded your operations into our second major international airport of Mombasa after your on-going successful operations at JKIA. The opening of an Istanbul, Mombasa Kilimanjaro corridor will connect coast province to over 69 international destinations that Turkish Airlines operates around the world.” He added
The flights will be operated five times a week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from Instanbul with the returns on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
Introductory round trip fares from Istanbul to Kilimanjaro or Mombasa are available from 299 Euros including taxes and fees.
