Air India returns to Kenya as first flight in 10 years lands in Nairobi

NAIROBI – NOVEMBER 27TH 2019 : Air India’s flight from Mumbai to Nairobi landed on Wednesday with 100 passengers on board, marking the return of the airline to Kenya after 10 years.
The return of the airline presents a big opportunity for the two countries which have shared trade and economic ties for many years.

Alex GItari, Acting Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) MD said on Wednesday that the return of Air India to Kenya is an eloquent testimony that  JKIA is growing to be the regional hub of choice and Kenya is fulfilling its promise to become one of the most preferred destinations in Africa.

“Air India’s comeback into Kenya increases our direct presence to Asia. This new direct flight will give an additional lift to trade and tourism between Kenya and India and continue the push towards closer ties between the two countries in terms of trade, finance, tourism and cultural exchanges,” Said Gitari during the reception in Nairobi.

The airline will offer four direct flights a week, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday with plans to offer additional flights in the pipeline.

Air India will be instrumental in increasing uptake from both Tier I and II city markets of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru; and Kolkata, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and others, utilising its existing domestic infrastructure network, market knowledge and presence.
