Lanet 15th December, 2020: The Principal Secretary –State Department of Transport, Mr. Solomon Kitungu has today overseen the groundbreaking of the expansion and upgrading of Lanet Airstrip in Nakuru County.
The event is a major milestone in Kenya Airport Authority’s quest to deliver quality airport infrastructure. It is a sign of the authority’s commitment to ensure it fulfills the government’s promise to expand the transport network in the country.
The 18 month-long project will enhance the capacity of the existing Lanet Airbase to handle both commercial and cargo air traffic making the airbase a dual military-civilian facility.
Phase 1 of the project will include the construction of a 1.7km by 23m wide Bitumen Runway, Taxiways, a Military Apron, a Terminal Building, and Lounge and the installation of Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) and Perimeter Fence.
The socio-economic effects attributed to the presence of a civilian airstrip at Lanet are expected to go far beyond the direct receipt of passengers. The Airstrip will spur the growth of the Service, Tour, and Hospitality Industries.
