Check-In
Departure halls have clearly marked check-in counters. Airline and KAA ground staff are available to facilitate passengers through boarding procedures, and on to the immigration desks.
The Kenya Airports Authority has set up self check-in kiosks for from which they can print out their boarding passes. This facility is currently only available for Kenya Airways, SAA and KLM passengers
Passport Control
Immigration have set up a passport control desk at various JKIA entry and exit points to ensure that passengers’ travelling documents are in order.

Customs
In addition to the other security checks, customs officers may weigh and inspect all incoming luggage. Arriving passengers are therefore required to identify their baggage for inspection by the custom officers.
The following are the items you need to decleare upon your arrival in Kenya.
• Items you purchased and are carrying with you upon return to the Kenya.
• Items you inherited while abroad.
• Items you bought in duty-free shops, on the ship, or on the plane beyond the allowed limits.
• Repairs or alterations to any items you took abroad and then brought back, even if the repairs/alterations were performed free of charge.
• Items you brought home for someone else including gifts.
• Items you intend to sell or use in your business, including business merchandise that you took out of the Kenya on your trip.
• Currency above 10,000 USD or its equivalent MUST be declared at Customs upon arrival.
You must state on the Passenger declaration form, in U.S. currency, what you actually paid for each item. The price must include all taxes. If you don’t know
for sure, estimate. If you did not buy the item yourself – for example, if it is a gift – estimate its fair retail value in the country where you received it.
Remember: Even if you used the item you bought on your trip, it’s still dutiable. You must declare the item at the price you paid or, if it was a gift, at its fair market value.
Prohibited Items
Fake money, pornographic material /indecent articles, narcotic drugs, used tyres for light commercial vehicles.

Transfer Counters
All airlines have set up transfer desks within the departure halls. Passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for assistance.
Follow our step-by-step guide below to ensure a smooth and hassle-free check-in.
Most airline check-in counters open at least 2 hours before your flight, and some also offer early and online check-in. We encourage you to check-in at least 2 hours before your departure time.
- Pack all your luggage, including your Hand-Carried Luggage, according to security guidelines.
- When you arrive at the airport, refer to the Flight Information Display Screens for your airline’s check-in row information.
- Approach the check-in counter with your travel documents (valid passport, air ticket or booking confirmation, and visa if applicable).
- Check that you are issued with the correct boarding passes and that your travel documents are in order before leaving the check-in counter.
- Enter the Departure Hall and enjoy our airpot’s transit facilities like dining and shopping!
- Remember to get to your boarding gate early for security checks!
